Investing with Purpose, Guided by Heritage

Stekkur is a value-driven, community-minded investment company founded in 2010 by father and daughter Kristinn Aðalsteinsson and Guðlaug Kristbjörg Kristinsdóttir, who have led the company ever since as Chairman and CEO.

Stekkur has grown steadily in recent years, alongside the success of the companies in its portfolio. It is an active investor with a clear vision for its holdings’ operations, strategies, and impact. Stekkur has followed through on this vision by increasing its ownership in key companies and is now the sole owner of Securitas and holding an 80% stake in Límtré Vírnet.

The company is built on the legacy of Aðalsteinn Jónsson, a pioneering entrepreneur from Eskifjörður who made a lasting impact on the East Iceland economy through his foresight, perseverance, and integrity. Aðalsteinn understood the deep connection between industry and community. His businesses created jobs and generated value that strengthened the region economically, culturally, and socially.

Stekkur’s founders – Aðalsteinn’s son and granddaughter – carry forward this philosophy and run the company in its spirit. As a result, Stekkur’s subsidiaries are socially conscious, with operations and services reaching communities across Iceland. The company has facilities and offices in locations including Flúðir, Reykjanes, Eskifjörður, Akureyri, Borgarnes, and Reykjavík.

Stekkur takes pride in its companies, the quality of their products and services, their impact on local communities, and their contributions to a more sustainable future. The company remains committed to supporting its portfolio, focusing on continued growth and development, guided by a clear investment strategy.

Built on a Strong Legacy

Aðalsteinn Jónsson (1922–2008) was one of Iceland’s most influential business leaders of the 20th century and a key figure in developing the East Iceland fishing industry. Born into modest circumstances, he rose through determination and hard work – beginning his seafaring career at a young age and acquiring his first share in a fishing boat in 1946.

In 1960, he took over the nearly bankrupt Eskifjörður Freezing Plant and transformed it into one of the country’s most successful enterprises, which he led for 41 years. Under his leadership, the company became an economic powerhouse and a vital contributor to the development of communities across the Eastfjords. Aðalsteinn was awarded the Knight’s Cross and the Grand Knight’s Cross of the Order of the Falcon, Iceland’s highest honors, for his achievements.
